A childhood interest in who we are and where we came from got the better of me!

I am a professionally trained and fully qualified genealogist based in the UK.

I hold both the Higher Certificate and the Diploma in Genealogy from the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Canterbury.

My training covered every aspect of genealogy including specialisms such as heraldry - (the subject of interpreting coats of arms), and palaeography (the deciphering of historical handwriting).

My interest in genealogy began when this type of research involved many hours painstakingly scrutinising the huge volumes of births, deaths, and marriages at St Catherine's House in London. Fortunately the internet has facilitated the initial stages of a search. However to go into any real depth still normally requires using a records office.

I am based in Greater London and Dorset. I am ideally placed to visit record repositories such as the National Archives in Kew, the Society of Genealogists, the London Metropolitan Archives, and the Dorset History Centre. I can also visit the Surrey History Centre and the Hampshire Archives and Local Studies, and may be willing to travel further afield depending on the case.

I offer a bespoke research service to meet my client's requirements, whether this be a concentrated search for one family line, a generalised search as far back as possible, or simply to assist with your own research - for example if you are experiencing an obstacle to your research and need advice. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Part of my early career was in the civil service where my duties included records management and research. I have also worked in museums in London and Edinburgh. My professional roles required attention to detail, accuracy and strong analytical and organisational skills - all crucial qualities for a genealogist.

I specialise in English records but am also familiar with Irish, Welsh and Scottish records, having researched families with roots in these countries.
